CLÉMENT
DEMERS
 Biography
|
A figure well
known in the world of Montréal
real estate, Clément Demers'
star rose meteorically into the urban
skies after orchestrating one of the
most impressive planning and redevelopment
projects ever carried out in Quebec—the
Quartier international de Montréal.
Many times a winner of awards and distinctions,
this major accomplishment gave bold
new impetus to this exceptional man's
dynamic career.
Architect and urban planner by profession, Clément Demers gained his first
planning experiences working some fifteen years for the City of Montréal,
where he held a variety of positions, including the office of deputy director
of housing and urban development. For six years, he also shaped the future of
the Société immobilière du patrimoine architectural de Montréal.
Then, in 1994, as senior vice-president of Cadev, a subsidiary of the Caisse
de dépôt et de placement du Québec, Clément Demers
began enhancing and rehabilitating industrial, commercial and residential properties.
It was a convincing experiment that resulted in his being asked in 1997 to head
the montage of the Quartier international de Montréal project. Today he
is its General Director.
Besides his many professional undertakings, Clément Demers has been sharing
his project management skills with students at Université de Montréal
since 2000. In addition to all this, he has written about and been keynote speaker
on a great many topics that include architecture, urban planning and real estate
development.
Clément Demers' talents and skills did not go unnoticed by his peers.
Besides the 2002 Meritas Excellence MGP award, the 2003 Hans Blumenfeld Award
and the 2004 Prix Performance Gestionnaire, his accomplishments earned him the
title of Personality of the Week in 2005. By presenting Clément Demers
with its 2007 Personality Award, the Institute of Design Montréal wishes
in turn, to acknowledge this imaginative builder's career.
